After taking a break from blogging over the past few months, I’m back and looking forward to sharing my inspiration and images on my new Tumblr blog. I hope to see you there.

CLASSIC WHITE-FRAMED KITCHEN
For those that are traditional at heart, here is a classic white-framed kitchen that I have designed. I designed this with clear glass doors, but painted the interiors a Wedgwood blue. I used beefy crown mouldings; and to break up the expanse of cabinetry of this wall, I lowered the counter in the middle for a work area. I then created a niche above, illuminated by wall sconces & a recessed light, to showcase the collection of antique Chinese porcelain.

BANQUETTE DINING
As you know, I love banquettes for dining. This example is one I recently designed as a cozy corner to eat or meet. I angled the walls, panelled them, and designed the banquette to follow the angles. The walls were also painted charcoal to match the mohair on the banquette. The chairs were upholstered in pearl-grey leather down to the floor. When designing a banquette, always use a table with a centre base for easy access in and out.

FLOOR TREATMENT – RALPH LAUREN STORE, BEVERLY HILLS
I wanted to share with you this great floor treatment that I saw when I was recently shopping at the Ralph Lauren store in Beverly Hills. It was poured concrete with an inset wood grid and brushed nickel accents at each intersection. The concrete has also been stained dark tobacco. It’s so chic — concrete never looked so good.

CONTEMPORARY BILLIARD ROOM
Just want to show an example of how a billiard room doesn’t have to look stuffy and old fashioned. Here, I paneled the room in walnut with contemporary detail. Specifically, the billiard table does not have to have green felt; here, taupe felt, dark walnut and polished nickel make this billard table cool and sexy.

RUSTIC TABLES MADE HIP
A good reflection of new urban country are these tables with rustic wood tops. Note the contrast with the lucite or steel bases. Also, this dining room table takes it a step further by washing the top steel grey. These make for a good eclectic interior.

NEW YORK CITY (PART TWO): KIPS BAY DESIGNER SHOWHOUSE
I recently went to the Kips Bay designer showhouse in New York City; this is the original designer showhouse, held annually for 38 years. Each year, some of the greatest designers in New York create spaces that express their design point of view.

This home spa, designed by Jennifer Post Design, was the ultimate couples retreat. I particularly like the console table between the two massage tables and the way the carpet is inset into the hardwood floor.

In this living room & closet area, designed by Aman & Carson Interiors, I thought the use of three different tables at different heights was a cleaver way to create a coffee table that is flexible and not static.

This stenciled floor was inspired by a carpet in an ajoining room. I love stenciled floors, and this inspired me to start using this technique in my own projects.

Vicente Wolf is a designer who always creates beautiful eclectic spaces with a modern point of view. In this room, the carpet is the focal point. I particularly like the curved linen sofa with the 1940's Jansen dining table.

Art doesn't just have to hang on the wall. In Vicente Wolf's space, he took a very static corner and created a focal point by placing this photograph on this bronze easel.

NEW YORK CITY (PART ONE): LORD & TAYLOR FIFTH AVENUE ‘ULTIMATE FACE LIFT’ EVENT
I was in New York for the Lord & Taylor Fifth Avenue store’s ‘Ultimate Face Lift’ grand re-opening party, showcasing the flagship store’s almost year-long renovation. On the furniture floor, in the Ralph Lauren Shop, I really liked the way the black and white photography was mounted on the wall above the bed — modern, yet retro.
Also in the Ralph Lauren Shop was this room setting. I love using sisal carpeting wall-to-wall, layered with patterned antique carpets.

BATHROOM INSPIRATION
I’m always looking for new and exciting plumbing fixtures when designing bathrooms. While these are a little outside the box, they certainly make a statement.

I love the purity of this sink and counter; both are made of white marble, while the base is made of a white-washed wood. Very northern European.

I love this sink made out of soap stone, it is double-width so two people can use it at the same time and the slidnig wood surface that can move anywhere along the sink. Drawers beneath the sink and the open shelf are great places to stack towels.

This modern freestanding tub is so simple yet so luxurious, as it is carved out of a solid block of white Carrera marble.
When planning or designing a bathroom, you may only be doing it once so push the envelope when selecting all the elements in the room. You may be pleasantly surprised with how it all comes together.
